Book Review: The Numerous Mistakes Regarding the Hajj of the Improperly Covered Muslim Woman

I just got my copy of Shaykh Muhammad al-Imaam’s translation of The Numerous Mistakes Regarding the Hajj of the Improperly Covered Muslim Woman. What a mouthful! The Arabic title is shorter, but this was the best way to translate the book. Its 144 pages of info upon info for those sisters who want to know more about what not to do during Hajj. DTSSBC continues to put out high quality books for the Muslim sisters, may Allah reward them. The cover was beautifully designed by Usul Design and the edit is impeccable! Get your copy brothers and sisters! And I am not just saying that because I translated it! (Right now somewhere a sister is rolling her eyes thinking, “Yeah right!”) But seriously, this is a great book to have, so go get it, Allah willing.

The link for the store is here.

Book Review: Del Noble Coran

I got this Spanish translation of the Quran from Darussalam the other day. I know I haven’t really posted a lot of Spanish Islamic books, but since I am back home in El Paso, hopefully I will be able to add those I see at the Masjid library here on the blog, Allah willing. So this is a nice print, just like the Noble Quran in English, only this one is translated by ‘Abdul-Ghani Melara Navio, may Allah reward him. He is a Spaniard who accepted Islam in 1979 and went on to study Arabic and the Quran before embarking on its translation. From what I browsed, the translation is nice, although my Spaniard Spanish is a bit rusty, being that I am a Texas boy and my Spanish is part Tex-Mex, part Juarez dialect, and part Spanglish. Despite my shortcomings, I find this translation will benefit the Latinos of Latin America especially, and that’s all that matters.

Book Review: Mawsoo’at-ul-Aadaab-il-Islaamiyyah

I just got this two volume copy of Mawsoo’at-ul-Aadaab-il-Islaamiyyah (Encyclopedia of Islamic Manners) from Daar-us-Salaam, and I have to say that I am very impressed. The book is authored by ‘Abdullah bin Muhammad al-Mu’taaz and has an introduction by ash-Shaykh ‘Abdullah bin Sulaymaan al-Manee, one of the members of the Organization for Major Scholars in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Each book is over a thousand pages and contains many topics that could be used for Friday sermons or as a class to instruct Muslims in Islamic manners. The author deals with the servants manners towards Allah, then moves on towards manners towards the Prophet, peace be upon him, the companions, the scholars, the everyday Muslims, and then goes into detail about manners related to eating, drinking, seeking forgiveness, etc. I think the author covered almost every Islamic manner that one can think of. The price was kind of steep, I am sure I could have gotten it cheaper if I was still in Riyadh, but since I am not, I have to eat the high prices Islamic bookstores charge here in the West. Other than that, this is a much needed book to have on the shelf.

Book Review: Buhooth wa Fataawaa fee al-Mash 'alaa al-Khufayn

The issue of wiping over the socks and shoes is a very important matter that all Muslims should be familiar with. This small booklet derived from rulings given by Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy upon him, covers detailed instructions on this issue. There are twenty six questions and answers transcribed and published by Madaar al-Watan, under the supervision of the Shaykh Muhammad bin Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen Organization. I believe you can find a free e-book copy of it on the Shaykh’s site. If anyone finds it, let me know and I will post the link here, Allah willing. I may translate some questions and put it on the Kibaar blog, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Book Review: al-Qawl as-Sadeed Sharh Kitaab at-Tawheed

This is Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan bin Naasir as-Sa’dee’s notes on Kitaab-ut-Tawheed of Shaykh-ul-Islaam, Muhammad bin ‘Abdul-Wahaab, may Allah have mercy on them both. The notes are below the Masaail issues that Shaykh-ul-Islaam included in the Matn. The Shaykh uses the same simple style that is found in many of his other works that the students of knowledge use to gain in-depth understanding of the Islamic texts.

Book Review: Tahdheeb al-Asmaa wal-Lughaat

Just received this two volume work by Imam an-Nawawee, rahimahullah, entitled Tahdheeb-ul-Asmaai wal-Lughaat. Each volume is about 600 to 500 pages each, printed by Daar-ul-Kutub al-‘Ilmiyyah in Lebanon, 1st edition for 2007. It is a very high quality book, with strong binding and good font size. I got this one from Fadak Books for only $20.00 which is a steal compared to what others charge. I could get it cheaper in Egypt or Saudi, but the shipping will be more. When I lived in Saudi, I didn’t see this copy there in the bookstores, so I seized the opportunity when I saw it online.

This work is a beautiful compilation written in encyclopedia style format, illustrating all of the qualities of the Prophet, peace be upon him. It then goes on to describe the names of his wives, children, uncles, etc. After this it then goes on to list the companions, the successors, and their students, along with the names of other prominent scholars from the Salaf. It also goes into the issue surrounding who is considered a companion, and who is considered a successor. Nicknames are also covered such as why Abu Lahab was given this nickname, and why he was called the Pharaoh of the Muslims. Imam an-Nawawee then completes the work with the meanings of various Arabic words of difficulty, which takes a portion of book two. This is arranged in order of the alphabet. I spent a good time reading about the origin and meaning of the word Aameen which is explained in a very brilliant manner.

I am very impressed with this work, and recommend it for those into reference works on both ‘Ilm ar-Rijaal and Fiqh-ul-Lughah. May Allah reward Imam an-Nawawee, enlighten his grave, and grant him the highest place in paradise.

Book Review: Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahlis-Sunnati-wal-Jaama’aah

Just got this excellent one volume version of Imaam al-Laalakaa’iee’s monumental Sharh Usool I’tiqaad Ahlis-Sunnati-wal-Jaama’aah min al-Kitaab was-Sunnah wa Ijmaa’ as-Sahaabah wat-Taabi’een min Ba’dihim (The Explanation concerning the Fundamentals of the Creed of the People of the Sunnah and the Group based on the Book, the Sunnah, the Consensus of the Companions, and their Students after them), published by Daar Ibn Hazm of Beirut, Lebanon.

When I lived in Riyadh, I had purchased a five volume version that was condensed from the eight volume copy. This one volume version only contains the major highlights of the original. This is a good reference work if you need to find the various statements of the first three generation of Muslims concerning the religion.

Imaam al-Laalakaa’iee was known as Aboo-ul-Qaasim Hibatullah bin al-Hasan bin Mansoor at-Tabaree ar-Raazee. He was a Shaafi’ee scholar of Fiqh and Hadeeth scholar. He died in 418 A.H., corresponding to 1028 C.E.

Closing the Blogs!

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

I apologize for the confusion of this earlier post. I meant that two blogs on here will be deleted in the sense that I will keep the page up, but the content will be deleted. I will provide the links for where you will still be able to access those translations for future reference. I have chosen to discontinue the Qawl Sadeed and the Glass Vessels blogs. They will be removed by the end of next month, Allah willing.

I will still keep the Aajurroomiyyah blog, the Book Reviews blog, and the Why Islam blog. Updates will be slow as I am in summer session studies. In August I hope to update the blogs on my summer vacation with beneficial posts.

I ask any Muslim who benefited from my translations on those two blogs to make Duaa for me and for the scholars that I translated from.

Your brother in Islam,
Aboo 'Imraan

Book Review: Printed Sections of Zaad al-Ma’aad

In my post covering the Mukhtasar of Zaad al-Ma’aad, I mentioned the booklets that are printed and distributed by the Da’wah centers in the Kingdom. Most of the booklets go for one or two Saudi Riyals but most of the time they are given away for free at the study circles and conferences given by the Permanent Committee and their students. For more background about this book please see the post I mentioned above.

As for this particular print then it is a compilation of the Mukhtasar highlighting beneficial areas of the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) manners, actions, prohibitions, etc. condensed into a small lightweight book. I plan to translate some sections for the Qawl Sadeed blog as the sections are short but very enlightening.
